Took a littleĀ road-tripĀ on Saturday to the Queens Museum of Art, home of the “Panorama,” which they purport to be the largest scale model in the world. After seeing that shit, I believe it. It’s basically a huge room depicting the five boroughs of New York in 1/1200 scale (1 inch = 100 feet). It’s totally hokey in a Disney-esque kinda way, especially when the “lightshow” kicks in, but it still kicks major ass if you are the type of person who likes maps, models or train sets. A lot of people talk shit about Robert Moses, who initiated the Panorama for the Worlds Fair in 1964, because people say he was a racist and sequestered minorities in public housing and wanted to build a freeway through Central Park or something. But nobody can deny that he was a visionary motherfucker with huge balls and tons of influence. In the detail picture you can see my fucking apartment building. Crazy.
